So many of you know, but some don't, that I was in the hospital from Friday morning until yesterday evening. I had gone in Thursday for an ultrasound to check the baby's growth, and they found my fluid was low. They had me go in for an NST and AFI on Friday morning. When my fluid was lower than before, they decided to keep me there and induce labor. What followed was truly a test of my limited ability to stay cooped up...
Fast forward to Saturday night, about 20 minutes to midnight, when I gave birth to a healthy 5 lb 6oz baby girl. The delivery went fairly smoothly, and the NICU specialists came in to check over little Mary, just as a precaution. Thankfully, mercifully for me, she didn't have to go into the NICU. She was healthy enough that she could stay in my recovery room with me and we brought her home yesterday.
She's doing well, sleeping a little more than your average newborn (she was born just short of 36 weeks gestation, and she's what they call a late-term preemie), and we have to be a little more careful this time around than we did when Jeannie was born, but so far, so good.
Jeannie loves being a big sister. She stayed with us in the hospital all day on Sunday, and she adores Mary. She calls the baby, "My baby sister Mary" and gets upset if she thinks someone is trying to take her away. She has held her sister, and loves to help feed her. I have a feeling that these two are going to be pretty close later on...
