Bowling Night

Twice a month, AJ and I go bowling with some friends of ours from church. Usually we get a sitter, because quite frankly with two kids whose bed time comes at 9, staying out until 11 at night isn't something we do all that often with them. Last night, however, our usual babysitter was sick, and Jeannie basically begged us to let her go bowling. And so we packed the kids into the car and went bowling.

Jeannie did really well. We had the bumpers set up on out lane for her, of course, and she consistently bowled about the same all night. Her first game she bowled about 55 (and of course I got a printout of the scores). Her second game she did about a 36, and the third (which we ended after the fourth frame because that was the end of the night) she bowled a 46. She has her own distinct way of doing everything she does, and of course bowling was no different. I'm just glad the ball was only six pounds, because she was throwing it from her shoulder.

Mary, of course, found her own way to keep busy. She ate pizza, drank root beer and walked around our area of the bowling alley (when she wasn't being held by me or daddy or one of our friends). Toward the end of the night she got really tired (which was no surprise, an almost-2-year-old staying out until eleven and not being even a little cranky is not something I've ever seen), but she was a good sport about it. She spent the last half hour or so following Jeannie around our table, and when it was Jeannie's turn to bowl she'd wait as patiently as she is able for her sister to come back.

When the time finally came for us to go, Jeannie had worn herself out. We live about five minutes from the bowling alley and both girls were sleeping by the time we got home. This morning Jeannie slept until 8:30 and Mary hasn't woken up yet (it's 9:00 now). I'm glad Jeannie doesn't have to go to school this week, or today would be hard on her.

:-)
